The Sumud Convoy: Ordinary people are stepping up where states continue to fail. Risking everything to defend human rights.
A new flotilla is forming in defiance of genocide to join the Unstoppable Fleet to Break the Siege on Gaza.
The Sumud Convoy—named after the Arabic word for steadfastness—is mobilising from ports across the Mediterranean. Its mission is to break Israel’s illegal naval blockade of Gaza and deliver vital aid directly to Palestinians under siege.

This is not a symbolic voyage. It is a direct act of civil resistance against starvation, displacement, and genocide.
Francesca Albanese, UN Special Rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territory, issued the call:
“Every Mediterranean port should send boats with aid, solidarity, and humanity to Gaza. They shall sail together—united, they will be unstoppable. #BreakingTheSiege is a legal duty for states, and a moral imperative for all of us.”
The Sumud Convoy follows in the wake of the Madleen, a civilian aid ship hijacked by Israeli forces in international waters. On board were humanitarians armed with nothing but flour, menstrual products, and baby formula. They were intercepted by Unit S13 of the Israeli Navy. Drones poured white paint over the ship. Communications were cut. The crew were disappeared.
This is the reality: aid is militarised, UN agencies are banned, and civilians queuing for food are gunned down. Gaza is being starved into submission, bombed in so-called “safe zones,” and emptied of its people. Every international law meant to protect civilians is being shredded in plain sight.
That is why the Sumud Convoy is assembling.
Who is being called?
Sailors, medics, mechanics, cooks.
Journalists, engineers, artists, activists.
People willing to stand, in body and will, between genocide and impunity.
How to join
The Freedom Flotilla Coalition is organising the convoy. Registration is open now.

Applicants will be vetted. You don’t need to own a boat—but you do need conviction, courage, and readiness to act. This is a real mission. It may be dangerous. That’s the point. Every intercepted ship exposes the blockade. Every volunteer is a witness to a crime, and a signal to the world that people will not look away.
Why “Sumud”?
Because Palestinians have endured every attempt to erase them—and remained. Because their steadfastness is not abstract; it is survival against extermination. Because the world needs to show the same courage. Not just in words, but in action.
As Francesca Albanese said:
“Ordinary people are stepping up where states continue to fail. Risking everything to defend human rights. Breaking the siege on Gaza.”
Let this convoy be the answer to every government that turned its back, every media blackout, every lie.
Join the Sumud Convoy. Break the siege.

While my mind immediately goes to Dunkirk, this is even more significant and all power by the people there. International solidarity, we will do what we can.
